By JF Beaulieu, CSIA Senior Director of Programs and Education
To Our Members,
This is an exciting time to be part of the CSIA.
Our organization is evolving. New ideas, new resources, and new opportunities are emerging across the country. At the same time, we remain connected by a shared passion for skiing and a commitment to helping others discover and enjoy our sport.
As we look ahead, I believe we have an opportunity to build something truly special together. Not simply to honour the remarkable legacy of the CSIA, but to help shape the strongest chapter in its history as we move toward our 100th anniversary in 2038.
As I step into the role of Senior Director, Programs and Education, I do so with a deep sense of pride and optimism. My journey within the CSIA has spanned decades as an instructor, course conductor, volunteer, and member. I have also had the privilege of representing Canada at four Interski Congresses, experiences that provided a unique perspective on ski education around the world.
Those experiences reinforced two important lessons: there is always more to learn, and Canada has much to contribute. By learning from the world’s leading ski nations while continuing to share our own ideas and innovations, we can help shape the future of ski instruction both at home and abroad.
The Greatest Strength of the CSIA is Its People
After decades within this organization, one thing has become clear to me: the greatest strength of the CSIA is its people.
Across Canada, our membership contains an extraordinary depth of expertise, experience, passion, and leadership. The knowledge, talent, and commitment required to build the future of the CSIA already exist within this organization. The future of the CSIA will not be built by a handful of leaders—it will be built by thousands of members bringing their best to the people they serve every day.
Every Lesson Matters
Every lesson is an opportunity to change someone’s relationship with skiing.
When we introduce people to our sport, we do far more than teach technique. We inspire confidence, create memorable experiences, and help people discover a sport that can enrich their lives for decades. The experience a skier has in their first lesson often shapes whether they return, share skiing with others, and become part of the skiing community.
A great instructor doesn’t just create a better skier. A great instructor can help create a lifelong skier.
Every positive experience helps strengthen skiing in Canada, supports the ski areas and communities where we teach, and contributes to the long-term vitality of the industry we all care about. In many ways, the future of skiing in Canada is shaped one lesson at a time.
The Pursuit of Excellence
The opportunity to make that kind of impact is why I believe the Pursuit of Excellence should serve as a guiding principle for our organization.
The Pursuit of Excellence is not about perfection or achieving a particular certification level. It is about bringing your best to the role you play within our sport and continually striving to make a greater impact.
As we prepare for another season, I encourage every member to ask a simple question:
What can I pursue to make a greater impact?
For some, it may mean helping a child discover a lifelong love of skiing. For others, it may mean giving a first-time skier the confidence to return, mentoring a colleague, creating exceptional guest experiences, or continuing to grow as an instructor and educator.
Excellence looks different for every member because every member’s journey is unique. What unites us is the pursuit itself—the commitment to keep learning, keep growing, and keep creating exceptional experiences for the people we serve.
The generations before us built something remarkable. As we look toward 2038, we have an opportunity to build something even stronger.
I believe the future of the CSIA will be defined by the quality of our people, the impact of our lessons, and our collective commitment to excellence.
I look forward to building that future together.
