MEET GUY DALE, NEW CSIA TEC CHAIR

by | May 8, 2025 | CSIA Spotlight

Guy Dale has recently taken over the Chair position of the CSIA Technical and Education Committee from Erin Touchie. He is a long standing CSIA member, currently a Level 4 CSIA Instructor, a Level 4 Examiner, and a member of the CSIA Interski Team for Levi 2023 and Vail 2027. Guy grew up ski racing, and that competitive foundation still drives his love for technical precision and performance today.

Guy is originally from Wales in the UK. After completing his education, he came to Canada for what was meant to be a year, but now almost 20 years later, he is a proud Canadian citizen, he can confidently say this incredible country is home!

He spent many of his formative winters at Silver Star, training under the watchful eye of Norman Kreutz, who played a significant role in shaping the instructor he has become. It was there that he earned his CSIA Level 4 certification before relocating to Whistler in 2013 to continue developing his craft in a larger and dynamic training environment.

Over the years, he has worked with international training organizations as his passion lies in skier development, technical skiing, and coaching methodology, with a focus on how people learn.

At the heart of it, I’ve always been fascinated by how people improve — not just physically, but how their confidence, understanding, and love for the sport grows through good teaching.

Guy has had the privilege of contributing to the CSIA Technical and Educational Committee (TEC) in various capacities over the past few years. His path to joining the TEC was born out of a deep appreciation for what the CSIA has given him — a career, a lifestyle, and a community. Contributing back felt like a natural evolution for him…

I owe a great deal to the CSIA and the membership — the opportunities, the people, the lifelong friendships. Being part of TEC is my way of giving back to the organisation and this amazing community.

The TEC is an inspiring place to work. The collective knowledge, humility, and shared purpose among the members is a real testament to the strength of our organization. We’re educators at heart — and there’s something incredibly energizing about sitting around a table with people who are constantly asking, How can we do this better?

There’s a strong creative and technical balance in the work we do. Whether we’re developing new resources or refining national standards, the process is collaborative and deeply thoughtful. We debate, challenge each other, and evolve together — always with the best interest of the membership and organization in mind.

Some of the most meaningful projects he has worked on involve enhancing instructor development, educational content, especially within the application of the Canadian Teaching Approach (CTA) and performance progression models grounded in solid learning theory.

When you see an instructor light up because a concept finally clicks — or because they’ve found a better way to reach their students — that’s the payoff. That’s why we do this.

As Chair of the TEC, his goal is to foster clarity, collaboration, and forward-thinking leadership within the committee. Guy affirms that the role of the TEC is to support the CSIA Staff in their initiatives by offering insight, expertise, and recommendations that help ensure our collective work is technically robust, relevant to today’s ski environment, and truly beneficial to the membership.

My vision is simple: Elevate Canadian ski instruction in a way that honours our heritage while boldly stepping into the future.

He hopes that we continue to evolve our national programs with intention and consistency, deepen our integration of the CTA, and raise our instructional standards to meet — and exceed — the expectations of today’s learners.

Ultimately, he wants to see the CSIA remain the gold standard in ski instruction — not just in Canada, but globally. CSIA has the people, the passion, and the platform to lead, and he is excited for what lies ahead!

Thank you Erin Touchie, past TEC Chair
We would like to thank Erin for her hard work and dedication on the TEC over the past few years. She started with the Committee in July 2021 and took over the Chair role in September 2021.  She still has one more year before the end of her term on the TEC, and she will act as past chair to help Guy Dale transition into his new role this upcoming season.
