CSIA Women in Skiing Mentorship Program
Mission of the Mentorship Program
The Women in Skiing Committee is committed to working with our members and National Board to continue improving inclusion and equity in our sport and industry. Our many projects and initiatives are crafted along the lines of retention, development, creating safe spaces and equality across certification levels and opportunities for female CSIA members. One of these initiatives is the Mentorship Program.
What is the Mentorship Program?
The Mentorship Program is a volunteer program created to support and develop women in the CSIA to work towards and achieve their professional and personal goals in the ski industry. The WIS Committee envisions a future where every female, regardless of background or ability, feels welcomed, supported and inspired to pursue their skiing aspirations without barriers and biases. The Mentorship Program was created to drive female participation and engagement at all CSIA levels, especially in leadership roles. The Mentorship Program is a national program with pairings created from across Canada.
Community Coordinators support the WIS Mentorship team by facilitating the program in their local communities. Members are invited to apply as a mentor or mentee and will be matched based on similarities, experiences, goals, etc. Pairs are invited to register for the program as a pre-arranged mentor/mentee pairing. If there is a mentor or mentee you are eager to work with, reach out to them and register. All genders may be mentors, however only female identifying members may be mentees.
If you are interested in helping to start, grow or facilitate the program in your community we invite you to apply to be a Community Coordinator. Applications are active and a link can be found in the October Communiqué or on our Instagram page @wis_csia.
If you are interested in taking part in the program as a mentor or mentee, applications will be opening in November. Look out for an email coming from the WIS Committee or check out the Instagram page for more. We encourage members at all certification levels to apply!
While the benefits of mentoring are often thought of and reported for the mentees only, they are not the only ones who learn and grow through mentorship; in fact, the benefits of mentoring are significant for everyone involved. These benefits include; stimulation of new ideas, continuous learning, enhanced leadership skills, increased motivation and self-efficacy, giving back to the community, etc. If you are apprehensive to apply or worried you don’t fit the program, please apply as there are a wide range of pairings at all certification levels.
If you would like to learn more or if have any questions, please reach out to the WIS Committee at csiawis@snowpro.com. We look forward to seeing so many of you join the program this winter!
A Word from the Alberta Region
The Alberta region has been working hard to provide great training opportunities for all types of members.
They are excited to present 4 regional WIS days throughout the season: January 24, 2025 at Sunridge (Edmonton area), February 13, 2025 at Marmot Basin, February 14, 2025 at Castle and March 8, 2025 at Sunshine.
They are also proud to be the host for this year’s WIS summit event in April, which is shaping up to be a fantastic opportunity to train and connect with other female members in the skiing community.
