Getting into a CSIA (resolution) mindset

In his September Communiqué post, Guy Dale, TEC Committee Chair, CSIA Level 4 Instructor and Course Conductor, Interski 2027 Team Member talked about the importance of revisiting the essentials of good skiing during the first weeks of the season.

Just as the right mental and physical conditioning can help reduce the risk of early season injuries, building the right mindset about your responsibilities as a CSIA member can help to prevent or minimize conflict.

The CSIA_Code_of_Conduct sets out CSIA’s expectations of conduct and behavior for members, including approaching problems and issues (technical and non-technical) in a professional and respectful manner.  What does that mean in practice?

  • Speak up early if you see behaviour or hear comments that are unkind or unsafe.
  • Remember you can speak confidentially with the CSIA Ombuds Office if you are unsure about whether to bring forward a concern.
  • When appropriate, try to resolve concerns directly with the person(s) involved. If concerns arise while a course is in progress, you can contact the course conductor or the snow school administrator.

Being part of CSIA means more than technical skill – it means upholding a shared standard of respect, safety, and professionalism. Know the Code, use your resources, and don’t hesitate to act when something doesn’t feel right. All the best as we wait for the first snowfall!
